It's about life. It's about death. It's about love.
It's about being young. It's about being old. It's about growing up.
It's about joy and it's about sadness.
It's about us.

It's about life.

Easy listening by Luc Besson. Nice anyway.
Fast and energetic.

is my hero. One of them at least. One of only two in the media. The only one in television.

If his Daily Show weren't reason enough to be a drooling fan-boy, then his appearance on Crossfire should be. If you haven't seen crossfire (it's on a crappy news network, so maybe you haven't), it's basically an excuse for a couple of dancing monkeys to get on the screen and pretend that there is actually something akin to political discourse available on corporate media.

Oops. Did I say dancing monkeys? I should probably apologize now to any primates I may have insulted. Please don't take it personally.

Anyway, he basically went on their show to take them to task for not doing their job as journalists. He did a very good job. He was biting, earnest and entertaining all at once.

It was almost enough to make me reconsider my misanthropic tendencies...

Here's looking at you, kid.

Seeing the film over and over again, year after year, I find it never grows over-familiar. It plays like a favorite musical album; the more I know it, the more I like it. The black-and-white cinematography has not aged as color would. The dialogue is so spare and cynical it has not grown old-fashioned. Much of the emotional effect of ``Casablanca'' is achieved by indirection; as we leave the theater, we are absolutely convinced that the only thing keeping the world from going crazy is that the problems of three little people do after all amount to more than a hill of beans.
(Roger Ebert)

Humphrey Bogart

Distantly related to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, through her American relations.

German dubbers translated his famous quote "Here's looking at you, kid" as "Ich schau' dir in die Augen, Kleines." which means "I look into your eyes, little one"

His coffin contains a small, gold whistle, put there by his wife, Lauren Bacall.

Off the set, he and Bergman hardly spoke during the filming of Casablanca. She said later, "I kissed him but I never knew him." Years later, after Ingrid Bergman had taken up with Italian director Roberto Rossellini, and borne him a child, he bawled her out for it. "You used to be a great star," he said. "What are you now?" "A happy woman," she replied.

personal quotes

"The trouble with the world is that it's always one drink behind."

[attributed last words] "I should never have switched from scotch to martinis."

Ingrid Bergman

Many of her shorter male co-stars, such as Humphrey Bogart and Claude Rains, had to wear lifts to avoid looking small next to this 5' 10" beauty.

At her funeral service held at Saint Martin's-in-the-fields Church, there was nothing that was as touching as the moment when, a violin played the strains of 'As Time Goes By'.

Her famous love affair with the war photographer, Robert Capa was the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window.

During the making of Casablanca (1942) Humphrey Bogart's wife Mayo Methot continually accused him of having an affair with Bergman, often confronting him in his dressing room before a shot. Bogart would come onto the set in a rage.

One day at the studio she hooked bumpers with another car. A studio policeman found her tugging and heaving with all her might. The policeman said, "Darndest thing I ever saw. First film star I ever knew that didn't mind getting her hands dirty".

personal quotes:

"If a face like Ingrid Bergman's looks at you as though you're adorable, everybody does. You don't have to act very much." - Humphrey Bogart

"A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous."

"I made so many films which were more important, but the only one people ever want to talk about is that one with Bogart."

"If you took acting away from me, I'd stop breathing."
